DC Eats: Zentan

As you all should have known, Resturant Week was last week. I ate too much food by the way, lol. I’m here to fill you in on all the experiences. My first stop was Zentan. Zentan specializes in contemporary Japanese comfort food with influences from Chef Yo Matsuzaki’s childhood in Shikoku, Japan.

We all started off with a drink. Whenever I go to a Japanese restaurant, I love to get plum wine. It is one of my favorites. I tried their Choya plum wine which was quite potent and it comes with a cute small bottle.

We actually ended up having a five course meal for $35 which was a steal. Everyone starts out with edamame which is blanched soy beans with sea salt. The Kinko miso soup comes with Shimeji mushroom, tofu, and scallion. Both very delicious. I was really impressed how they included mushrooms in their miso soup. I have grown to love mushrooms.

The main course was three tapa style dishes. I went for Niku Kushi Platter which comes with three skewers. It comes with duck, steak, and chicken. The chicken was hands down the best of the three.

Next was the Sushi Platter with nigiri and sashimi. The three types were maguro, sake, and hamachi. Nigiri and Sashimi is pretty much the fish on top of rice. It is becoming one of my favorites. Pictured above the Firecracker Maki. The Firecracker Maki wasn’t spicy at all. It was so filling! It comes with Ebi tempura, spicy jumbo lump crab salad, and tempura flake. The sushi here is AMAZING!

The last dish was Hibiscus Sorbet which was super fresh and refreshing.

If you go to the Donovan house and don’t end it with a drink on the rooftop, you’re wasting your time. For those looking for a low key date spot, this is it. Such a romantic spot with an amazing view.

What spots did you guys checked out for Restaurant Week?
