Skincare Favorites
These are some of my favorites to use on my skin. The Covergirl Lashblast is actually not apart my collection but will be in the near future because I saw a friend using it and it makes the lashes look great. Creme de Corps (Creme-de-Core) body butter is one of Oprah’s favorites and definitely one of mine. It contains Soy Milk and Honey and it smells and feels great.  Biore Acne Clearing Scrub is amazing! I have been looking for a two in one cleanser and scrub for clearing my acne and blemishes. Maybelline BB Cream is one of the first BB creams I ever got and I love how it evens my skin tone and it’s super light weight.

SNOBSWAP & Dewdrop “Swap in the City” Recap

Fashion enthusiasts and tech community came together and enjoyed “Swap in the City” hosted by SNOBSWAP & Dewdrop

Washington, D.C., May 14th, 2013 – Over 200 guests including fashion bloggers, designers and founders came out dressed to impress last Thursday May 9th, to enjoy a charity swap party and fashion show hosted by SNOBSWAP and Dewdrop at tech startup hub 1776. The night celebrated fashion and tech to raise awareness and funds for Becky’s Fund, a non-profit helping victims of domestic violence.

Attendees came with excitement bringing their designer goods from their closets to trade with other guests. Indulging in the sample sale-like frenzy, everyone was eager to find the best pieces to take home. Amongst the many items swapped included Marc Jacobs, BCBG and Balenciaga purses, Escada skirt, Prada trench coat, and Michael Kors flats. “This was a valuable experience for SNOBSWAP.com to come offline for one night and connect with our local members and enhance the swapping experience online,” says Elise Whang, CEO of SNOBSWAP.

The night was emceed by Julie Donaldson, an anchor for Comcast SportsNet, who looked stunning in a dress provided by TARI. After enjoying shopping, cocktails, and a tasting of exquisite Japanese hors d’oeuvres by master sushi chef Niki, guests were led towards a lively red carpet fashion show. The show featured a sneak preview of curated pieces from SNOBSWAP’s secret celebrity closet and ended with a collection of Brazilian swimwear by DC-based designer Emily Gonzaga’s label, D’Milikah.

Guest celebrities, such as Mrs. DC America and popular fashion bloggers such as Elle of Elle Choi, Liz Fassbender of So Much to Smile About and co-founder of CapFABB, and Comme Coco’s Jen Jean-Pierre also shared their closets and spring style tips. President and founder of Dewdrop, Kristine Thomas said, “We were thrilled to put together an evening of high end swapping for a wonderful cause and an opportunity for guests to update their wardrobes in an environmentally friendly way.”

It was an evening where innovation and creativity came together to celebrate the growing fashion and tech communities in DC. “Through this fabulous and successful event, Becky’s Fund was able to educate the community about domestic violence while showing support for the many survivors who live day to day trying to rebuild their confidence and lives,” said Becky Lee, founder of Becky’s Fund.

Artist Feature

IMG_7166Aaisya, tell me a little bit about yourself and things you like to do.

I love all things that scream art! New music, architecture, home decor, FASHION, contemporary, performance, installation and low brow art. I also love traveling, yoga is my religion and I maintain a very strict and healthy lifestyle as a vegetarian.

When did you discover that art was a passion of yours?

I was always artistic ever since I was a little girl. I didn’t take my passion seriously until I came to A&T. Thats when I realized people were really noticing my talent in art, so I decided to take an art class. And ya, now I’m here as a professional artist with an MFA.

I personally love art and love that you can take it many different directions. I have done visuals myself but only with clothing. How did you get into doing installations? Do you work with a particular company doing that?

I got into installations during my thesis at Howard University. My pieces were 2-Dimensional and I wanted it to get it completely off the wall so I can have the freedom to turn these whimsical formations into sculptures. So after grad school I took that idea and started playing around with my paper cones. My friend from Cincinnati spoke so highly of my artwork that he introduced me to a girl who owned a boutique not too far from my studio. We held a meeting and I showed her my portfolio. She was so confident in my work, that she wanted me to create her window displays for the year. It was a challenge but an exciting one! I definitely perfected my skills when creating my crystal like structures made out of paper. The Boutique that my work is held at is called Couture Couture in Over The Rhine which is pretty much a block away from Downtown Cincinnati. I’ve also did work at another store on the same street called Original Thought Required (O.T.R.) I have such a good repoire with both store owners that hopefully I can do future work after this year is up.

I’m also building my resume, so luckily when I move back to the east coast in June I can work with other business.

What are some upcoming projects we can look out to see some of your work?

I just finished an art contract with the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital so you can see my most recent work in the fall when the exhibit is officially installed. If anyone would like to look online or visit the hospital if you find yourself in Cincinnati, that’s an option too, I’m a part of their permanent collection. I also did cover art for a singer coming out with an EP in June, the artist’s name is Aiva Redflower. And, currently I’m in the process of finally finishing my new paper series, and I’ll be entering shows in 2014.

How can we view some of your pieces and stay connected? Do you have a website?

You can view my work on www.aasiyashani.com. And if anything pops up as far as an art show I’m currently in I will definitely let you know!
